Cape Adieu: four courses, dry season only
Cape Adieu is the one to pick if dinner is the point of the evening. The boat is a 70-foot former working vessel built in 1978, with three open decks, and its galley cooks a set four-course menu on board: small tasters with native ingredients, a seafood entree, then a main such as barramundi or beef scotch fillet. Tables are allocated before boarding. Board at Dock 3 from 5:00 pm; lines come off at 5:15 and you are back by 8:00. There is a licensed bar and no BYO, and Cape Adieu asks for smart casual and recommends flat shoes over heels on deck. Dietary needs must be booked ahead: with a small galley it runs a set menu. It sails only in the dry season, April to October, from US$135 on Viator (checked October 2026), where a full refund is possible up to 24 hours before.
The Charles Darwin: buffet or platter
The Charles Darwin is the big boat of the four: 25 metres, three levels, two of them air-conditioned, which counts on a humid evening. Its buffet cruise serves seafood and local produce from 6 to 8 pm, from US$105 (checked October 2026). Its Gaze and Graze cruise, from US$91 (checked October 2026), is the same two hours with a grazing platter instead: barramundi dip, prawns, cold meats and cheeses, or a vegetarian platter, then mango ice cream, with your seat on the open sundeck. Drinks come from the bar, paid by card only; no BYO. Boarding is at Dock 3 from 5:30 pm, and the gates close at 5:50.
Sail Darwin: tapas under sail
Sail Darwin is the only one of the four under sail, and the only one where drinks are part of the price: sparkling wine, soft drinks and water all evening, with eskies and ice on board for the beer or wine you bring. The tapas dinner comes round course by course over three hours. It is a smaller group on a 50-foot catamaran, and it needs at least 10 guests to sail. From US$135 on Viator (checked October 2026), where bookings are final.

What each step up buys
- Gaze and Graze, the lowest price: the sunset and a platter for two hours, on the sundeck. Add drinks from the bar.
- The buffet, for a full meal and air conditioning: the same boat and hours, a hot and cold buffet, and the indoor decks if the evening is sticky.
- Sail Darwin, for drinks included and a sail: with sparkling wine poured all evening and your own beer in the esky, there is nothing to pay on board.
- Cape Adieu, for a proper dinner: four plated courses cooked on board, at tables, on an old working boat.
Who each one suits
Couples marking an occasion go to Cape Adieu or Sail Darwin. Families do best on the Charles Darwin: children 3 and under travel free, the buffet cruise has a youth price for ages 4 to 17, and there is shade and air conditioning. A group of friends who want to bring their own drinks will like Sail Darwin. Anyone with limited mobility should call first: wheelchairs cannot board the Charles Darwin, because the tide moves the gangways, and mobility needs on Cape Adieu have to be arranged when you book.
